Hmm.. many will argue Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this While we were still sinners Christ died for us. The carnal mind wishes to receive this as yes he loves sinners. Yet if you examine the scripture closer and meditate on it you find something. The scripture is trying to explain Gods love. Not justify your lifestyle. Make no mistake God hates sin. So when the writer is explaining that WHILE we were doing what God hates he displayed his love to us. He’s giving insight on how good God is. Insight on how truly different he is than we are. This should not be used as an way to convince sinners that God loves them but to present to them how much we don’t love him.
Many try to come to God with an emotional need for him to fill. Thinking he is their source to fulfill their own desires. God is not a puppet we get to move to soothe our own personal needs. This is dangerous. Self deception is real and many think they are saved because they needed God to make them feel better. It is very important to seek God with the right heart and the right motives. That is simply recognizing that your life has been in direct rejection of him. That’s hard for people to receive. You cannot come to God truly unless your reason for coming is because you recognized your life represented a hatred of him and his ways. Then you will repent for living apart from him , then you will understand the scripture that while we were sinners he chose to show love to us that we didn’t deserve and in our belief in his son whom died for us we could truly have life with him.
Many don’t understand why Christ had to die for us. Why a sacrifice was required. So saying someone died for you makes no sense to them. Saying someone loves you and did such a thing can bring a person in need of love but not in desire to love him. The question is never does God love us, its do we love him. So telling a sinner that God loves them is dangerous if that’s all you are telling them. Ask them do they love God. They have to be honest about that question before they can even understand Gods love.
The gospel is not a one trick pony one liner got ya type of gimmick. It is intended to have a person examine every way of their life. Not squeeze a little in here and a little in there and find where it works for the life we already have. We must die to our old life and submit everything to him. The true gospel is rejected by the world for that reason.
